San Francisco’s Burger, Boardwalk, and Bridge
June 26, 2009 – 12:01 am
Guess where we went last weekend! A big big congrats to our friends who just tied the knot and are now honeymooning in Kauai! What a sweet couple & perfect day.
The majority of our time was spent prepping for and celebrating at the wedding, but we managed to squeeze in some other highlights too… for instance, Eric was very happy to try his first IN & OUT burger!! We give it 2 thumbs up!! Mmm… so tasty. (Californians are probably rolling their eyes at us, fueling the hype
)
The following morning, between the wedding rehearsal and bridal shower, we took a quick drive out to Santa Cruz and love love loved the coastline and boardwalk. If I lived nearby, I’d be jogging there every day (or at least riding rides with a season pass). Isn’t it beautiful?
Finally, on our last day in SF, we biked across the Golden Gate Bridge. Sounds cool, fun, romantic, etc, etc, right? Yeah whatever. We were tired and grumpy the whole way because it was much harder than we anticipated! The bridge was nice, but the ride up from Fisherman’s Wharf to the bridge (i.e. climbing hills) was not fun at all. Plus, we were rushed to make it to Sausalito before the last ferry departed (we ended up seeing Sausalito for all of 10 seconds), and we biked in traffic with cars zipping by at 45mph. A little scary! Anyway, you can see our expressions shift as the ride progresses.
So the moral of the story is 1) in & out is yummy 2) santa cruz is awesome 3) biking the bridge is nice in concept, not so much in reality. Haha, oh well.
Bedtime Stories
June 16, 2009 – 7:25 pm
I’m both amazed and concerned that Eric sleeps like a log. The forest could be burning down around him and this dear log of mine would sleep right through it! Sometimes he goes to bed before me, but still manages to summon enough consciousness to say “goodnight” and “i love you” when I join him… sweet, right? I thought so, until I started realizing that in the morning, he has absolutely no recollection of what he said to me the night before. Which made me wonder… does he even know who I am at night? If Winnie the Pooh jumped into bed with him, would he know? Would he profess his love?
Last night… true story, E was very emphatic…
J: Hi dear! Do you know who I am?
E: Charlie Brown!
J: Really? Charlie Brown?
E: Yes! Charlie Brown!
J: Do you love me?
E: Yes!
J: I want to be one that plays piano instead. (Linus) Do you know what his name is?
E: Beethoven!
J: Then who are you?
E: A husband that loves his wife!
I stopped shortly after that because I thought surely he was aware at that point. But you guessed it… in the morning… zero recollection. Amazed and concerned… forest burning down… steadfast log… yikes.
On the other hand, I’ve been quite restless in my sleep these days and having wild dreams. Earlier this week, I fell asleep with a bag of frozen corn on my foot because of some pain from running (fully deserved, having not run for a month)… and that night, I dreamt that my cousin had covered my foot with stickers and I spent the whole night picking them off. Another night, I woke up wanting to adopt a child and eagerly wanting to discuss the matter with Eric. What does this mean? And why oh why can’t I sleep like Eric!
Date at the Lake
June 13, 2009 – 6:59 pm
Eric took me on a date today… picnic and paddleboating!! After a long & frustrating week at work, this was exactly what I needed. Plus, I got to tan my legs a little so I don’t look like such a pale sun-deprived East Coaster at next week’s wedding. (Even if it’s true!) Highly recommend French Creek Park to anyone in the Philly area. =)

Chicago Art Institute
June 8, 2009 – 10:26 pm
Sunday after the wedding, we wandered around the Art Institute of Chicago and admired the works of Seurat, Monet, Cassatt and the like. We explored the Modern Wing, peered into miniature rooms and marveled at a collection of paperweights. Of all the pieces on display, though, none compare to the piece of art that is my husband (and Allen) (and his sock). How I ever became so fortunate to marry this boy, I do not know.
