Date Night

Another thing I love about summer: date nights! Or should I say having TIME to go on a date night and not worrying about getting back to work right away. During the school year, I got used to scarfing down lunch in 4 minutes and dinner in 10. So what a treat it is to eat leisurely these days!  Last weekend, Eric surprised me (sort of, I blew the surprise w/ the help of the white pages) with dinner at Alan Wong’s, a fancy restaurant in town. It’s been a long time since we splurged on a meal for just the two of us, so it was extra fun to get dressed up & go on a date with my hubby! I think I even saw that first-date twinkle in his eye again. Anyway, we had a great time. The restaurant is cozy, unassuming, yet surprisingly busy. Lots of couples celebrating anniversaries, as we overheard a number of desserts being given “compliments of the chef.” Made me think we should’ve said it was our anniversary too, but Eric the honest one said “no special occasion, just because.” I guess that’s a pretty good answer. Well I’m not a big fan of food pics, but the dessert we got is worth showing. It’s called “the coconut” and is haupia sorbet in a coconut shell made of dark chocolate. Did you get that? A DARK CHOCOLATE SHELL, with coconut shreds on the outside and fresh fruit on the inside. It was delicious. Thank you Eric!! alanwongs

Nesting, I think

I’m finally on summer vacation — yippeee! — which means, among other things, that a sense of order has been restored to our home.  The “magic dresser” is magically spitting out clean, folded, and ironed clothes again.  The fridge is (sort of) stocked, and its contents stacked in a neat, organized fashion (versus Eric’s haphazard manner ~ my pet peeve!).  A long list of home to-do’s are slowly getting done, one at a time, including things such as choosing/installing lighting, buying furniture, unpacking, cleaning, etc.  It seems to go on and on and on. Is this what they call nesting?  I kind of enjoy it — the variety, possibilities, envisioning and personalizing our home.  But at the same time, there’s a part of me that just wants to get it done with and move on!  Just pick one, Eric, I’m OK with any of them. Whereas I tend to rush into purchases, though, Eric’s strategy is to browse around and wait patiently for sales… which is wise, yet so aggravating.  Perhaps aggravating because he is so wise, hah!  In any case, we feel very blessed overall, in terms of settling into our new place.  We’ve lucked out finding a dining table in the clearance section, and survived running out of gas on an H1 on-ramp, on our way to pick up our dresser (thanks Kyle & Kris, lifesavers!).  Our desk, bookcase, and coffee table were all bought on sale… and now we’re just waiting for a TV stand to hit the Target ads, then we’re pretty much done with furniture!  The other big thing is getting curtains/blinds, which I’m hoping to do this weekend.  Right now we’re using brown paper to cover all the windows, which is kinda ghettttto, Eric….   lightingWhere you’ll find me during summer break — strolling the aisles of Home Depot

A Moot Point

Went to a friend’s wedding recently and she had the most GORGEOUS dress: jenny1jenny2Isn’t it beautiful?  It’s simple, subtle, unique, and the sash, oh the sash!  While we’re talking pretty dresses, here is another that caught my eye!  This one is similar to my own wedding dress, which explains why I would like it so much…Picture 2Picture 6

But whenever I show pics like this to Eric and explain “if i were to get married again, this is the kind of dress i would–” … well, he just shakes his head and rolls his eyes at me and dismisses everything I say.  Lovely.
