Bullets for now because no time…

  • Attended our first class at the hospital. Part 1 in an “Infant Care” series and it was on breastfeeding. Yikes!  So so so weird.  The couple who sat across from us was carrying triplets (crazy!), and coincidentally a high school classmate who I haven’t seen in years is also in the same class as us.
  • My feet are swollen and I can’t fit my shoes anymore.  I went from a size 7 to a size 8.  Barely five feet tall with size 8 shoes!!  Grrr.
  • I started side-hugging Eric because frontal hugs are increasingly awkward and uncomfortable, not to mention unstable!
  • My hygenist at the dentist guessed I was having a boy because my face is uneven & blotchy… apparently if you are carrying a girl your skin is beautiful (and mine isn’t!).
  • My stomach is huge as ever.  My appetite big as usual.  And I learned that ice cream is good for the baby’s brain development.
  • Onto another week!

I had my first dream about delivery, and it was SUPER EASY.  Everything was very vivid and it only took me 2 pushes!!!  I could see the head after the first push (don’t know how), and then he slipped right out on the second push.  There was no pain at all!  The few people I’ve told about this dream respond that I was most definitely dreaming.

We bought a crib!  Oh my goodness!  The whole incident felt very clandestine because it was late at night, and there we were in the dimly lit Walmart parking lot, watching for oncoming cars and ripping open the box so we could load the pieces into the car.

Then, just yesterday, Eric assembled the crib and called it my Valentines gift.  Sadly, I had nothing to give him in return… unless you count carrying his child.  This whole we’re-becoming-parents-and-in-two-months-there-will-be-a-little-baby-in-our-possession thing is becoming very, very increasingly real.  Some days I am bouncing off the walls can’t stop smiling excited.  Other days I am nervous and a bit scared.  Yet others I feel overwhelmed.  But most days, I just can’t wait… good or bad, I cannot wait to meet our baby.

I finally went swimming, which was no small feat considering 1) I didn’t want to blind anyone at the pool, 2) I didn’t want to freeze the baby, and 3) at any given moment, I’d rather be napping than exercising!  Regarding number 1, I was too cheap to buy a maternity swimsuit, so I ended up pairing a $5 bikini top from Walmart with an old swim-skirt I had, then wearing a spandex type tank top over it so as to keep the belly covered.  It’s not easy to pull together a prego-appropriate swim outfit!  It feels and looks super awkward.  Regarding number 2, I had already been rained out one day, and chickened out another due to the water being too cold, so when the sun was finally cooperative this week, I forced myself to go… and against all odds I made it off the couch and out of my PJs.  As for the experience itself, it was alright.  A friend told me I’d feel amazing afterwards b/c the water relaxes your muscles, etc etc…  but meh, it was just alright.  I felt like a whale, and a huge clumsy one at that.  So that’s it. Week 29… went swimming!

We’re narrowing in on a name…

I found out during a family dinner that my cousins and I were all 8+ pound, C-section babies!  Eric was ~6 pounds, so I hope our baby takes after Eric in this regard!

Notes from my latest doctor appt: 131 pounds (gained 17 pounds overall, normal range is 12-15 at this point… ugh)
The numbness I’m feeling in my hand is probably due to swelling and pressure on the carpel tunnel nerve… to help it, minimize weight gain and keep wrist straight.
The pain I felt a couple weeks ago was probably a braxton-hicks contraction, which simply means the uterus is irritated. Solution: prop up feet & hydrate.
Cut back on sugar intake to reduce weight gain, i.e. 1 fruit per day, max.  (You can bet I was SHOCKED to hear this… I thought fruit was as healthy as it gets!)  Doc says to eat more protein and veggies instead.
Blood test results show that I’m slightly anemic, but not diabetic.

Finally signed up for a hospital tour (earliest opening is in March, yikes) and pregnancy classes.  I hope the baby doesn’t come early. We won’t be ready.

And as of today, 30 days of school left!  I’m pretty pooped these days.
